How to set it up

A gift wrapping day needs a steady stream of hands, not a crowd at 9:00. Split the day into two-hour blocks with a set number of wrappers each, and list the supplies as things to bring with counts, so the tape doesn't run out at 11:00 while there are forty rolls of paper.

Say in the description where to park and which door to use, and whether kids are welcome. Volunteers get a reminder the afternoon before naming their block, which is what keeps a December morning from running short.

Questions people ask

Can someone sign up for a block and bring supplies on the same form?
Yes. Shifts and things to bring sit on the same page; they tick both and get one confirmation.
What about a note for volunteers, like which door to use?
Write it in the page's note to volunteers and it goes at the top of every confirmation and reminder.
We do this with the PTA and the church together. Two organizers?
Add the other organizer as a co-organizer and you both see the same list.

Why not a paper sheet or a Google Form?

A paper sheet lives in one place and fills up with the first people who walk past it. A Google Form takes forty signups for a row that needed two, and you find out in the spreadsheet. An online sign-up sheet closes each row when it's covered, sends a reminder the day before, and gives every person a link to cancel so the spot reopens. See the side-by-side with Google Forms.
