How to set it up

Youth football starts in August heat and ends in cold November, so the snack schedule is really a water schedule first. One family per game brings the after-game snack and enough cold water for every player, and the team keeps a jug and ice on the sideline for the game itself. List every game by date, home and away both, and post it at the first practice so the schedule is full before the first kickoff.

Put the rules in the description: how many players, nut-free, nothing that needs to be unwrapped with a mouthguard in, and frozen grapes or orange slices beat cookies in August. One tip: add a row for the team water jug and ice for the whole season and give it to a family who comes to every game anyway, so it never depends on the snack family remembering.

Questions people ask

We're in the playoffs and the schedule only goes to game 8. How do we add games?
Use Copy the week forward on the last game and change the date for each playoff round, or extend the page by a month and the next Saturdays appear with the same rows. Everyone already signed up keeps their game, and you can email the whole page once to fill the new rows.
How do families find out it's their week?
They get a confirmation when they sign up and a reminder the day before their game. Reminders go out on their own, so the team parent isn't texting on Friday night.
What if nobody takes an away game?
The page shows the still needed line on that game until someone does. Email everyone on the page from the page a week out. If it stays open, the team parent's trunk case of water and granola bars covers it.

Why not a paper sheet or a Google Form?

A paper sheet lives in one place and fills up with the first people who walk past it. A Google Form takes forty signups for a row that needed two, and you find out in the spreadsheet. An online sign-up sheet closes each row when it's covered, sends a reminder the day before, and gives every person a link to cancel so the spot reopens. See the side-by-side with Google Forms.
