How to set it up

A basketball snack schedule is one row per game, and the only thing that makes it different from soccer is the gym. Most gyms don't allow food on the court, so the snack happens in the hallway or the parking lot after the game, and it has to be something kids can eat standing up with no crumbs. List the games by date, skip the weeks of the holiday break, and let families pick the Saturdays they'll be at.

Write the rules once in the description: how many kids, nut-free, no drinks that spill in the gym, and water bottles for everyone because fountains are usually broken or far away. One tip: the first game back after the break is the one everyone forgets, so take that one yourself or ask the most reliable family to take it.

Questions people ask

The league added a tournament weekend. How do I add games?
Copy the week forward on the last game and change the date, once per added game, or extend the page by a month to add the next Saturdays with the same rows. The families already on the page keep their games.
Can the page handle the gap over the holidays?
Yes. The rows are just the dates you add, so there is nothing to skip. Families see Dec 19 and then Jan 9 and nobody signs up for a week that doesn't exist.
How does a family hand off a game they can't make?
They cancel from the link in their confirmation and the game reopens with a still needed line. Email everyone from the page and it's usually taken the same day.

Why not a paper sheet or a Google Form?

A paper sheet lives in one place and fills up with the first people who walk past it. A Google Form takes forty signups for a row that needed two, and you find out in the spreadsheet. An online sign-up sheet closes each row when it's covered, sends a reminder the day before, and gives every person a link to cancel so the spot reopens. See the side-by-side with Google Forms.
