How to set it up

A cheer squad is on the sideline for the whole game, often two hours in the sun, and the snack has to work around the uniform. The schedule is one row per game day with one family on it, plus a row or two for competition day, when the team needs breakfast and something for the long wait between performances. List the dates, post the page at the parent meeting, and let families claim the days they'll be there.

Put the rules in the description: how many girls, nut-free, nothing red or sticky that stains a white uniform, and water for everyone because the team water is for the field players. One tip: give competition day two families, one for breakfast and one for the afternoon, and let them split it in the notes.

Questions people ask

The football team's season got extended. How do we add game days?
Copy the week forward on the last game day and change the date, or extend the page by a month and the next Saturdays appear with the same rows. Email everyone on the page once so the new days get taken.
Can families see who already has a day?
Yes, names show on each row by default, so a family can pick a day next to a friend or avoid doubling up. You can hide names on the page if the squad prefers that.
What if a family cancels the week before?
They cancel from the link in their confirmation email, the day reopens with a still needed line, and you email everyone from the page. The reminder the day before goes to whoever takes it.

Why not a paper sheet or a Google Form?

A paper sheet lives in one place and fills up with the first people who walk past it. A Google Form takes forty signups for a row that needed two, and you find out in the spreadsheet. An online sign-up sheet closes each row when it's covered, sends a reminder the day before, and gives every person a link to cancel so the spot reopens. See the side-by-side with Google Forms.
