Friendsgiving Sign Up Sheet (free, online)

The host does the turkey; everyone else claims a side, a pie or the drinks on one page, so the table is a real Thanksgiving and not six bags of rolls.

How to set it up

Friendsgiving works when the host takes the turkey and the sheet takes the rest. List the classic sides with a count on each, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, two or three pies, drinks, and the paper goods and ice, and let friends claim what they're good at. Put the headcount and the time dinner is served at the top so the sides show up warm and not an hour early.

The mistake is the group text where four people say 'I'll bring something'. One tip: add a row for one dish that isn't on the traditional list, labeled 'wildcard side', for the friend who makes the thing everyone asks about every year. Ask people to bring sides in an oven-safe dish so they can be reheated.

Questions people ask

How many sides for 16 people?
About one side per two guests, so eight to ten dishes across the rows above, plus three pies. People take a little of everything, so one pan of each is plenty.
Do my friends need an account to sign up?
No. Send the link in the group chat, they tap a dish, type a name and email, and get a confirmation. The reminder the day before comes on its own, which matters when the pie is in someone's freezer.
What if someone drops out the day before?
They cancel from the link in their confirmation, the dish reopens with a still needed line, and you email everyone on the page. Someone always has a box of stuffing in the pantry.

Why not a paper sheet or a Google Form?

A paper sheet lives in one place and fills up with the first people who walk past it. A Google Form takes forty signups for a row that needed two, and you find out in the spreadsheet. An online sign-up sheet closes each row when it's covered, sends a reminder the day before, and gives every person a link to cancel so the spot reopens. See the side-by-side with Google Forms.
