Thrift Store Volunteer Shift Sign Up (free, online)
Donation intake, sorting, pricing and floor shifts for a volunteer-run store, on a schedule that rolls every week.
How to set it up
Volunteer-run thrift, reuse and resale stores need two kinds of people on a rota: sorters and pricers on the days the store is closed, and floor volunteers on the days it's open. Put both on one schedule with real times, two or three people per shift, and let it roll forward weekly. New volunteers see what an actual shift is; regulars claim theirs in a minute.
Use the note to volunteers for the practical bits, like where to park, which door, and who to ask for on arrival, so nobody's first shift starts with a locked door. Cancel links and day-before reminders do the rest.
Questions people ask
- Our schedule is the same every week. Can it repeat?
- Yes. Rolling schedules add the next weeks automatically with the same shifts and counts.
- How do new volunteers learn the register?
- Add a 'training buddy' row or a question asking whether they've worked the register before, and pair newcomers with a regular.
- Can we track hours for our board report?
- Every completed shift is logged per volunteer. The hours report exports to CSV and prints a letter per person.
Why not a paper sheet or a Google Form?
A paper sheet lives in one place and fills up with the first people who walk past it. A Google Form takes forty signups for a row that needed two, and you find out in the spreadsheet. An online sign-up sheet closes each row when it's covered, sends a reminder the day before, and gives every person a link to cancel so the spot reopens. See the side-by-side with Google Forms.
