How to set it up

A community wrap day runs on a steady stream of hands, not a crowd at 9:00. Split each day into two-hour blocks with a set number of wrappers each, so the table is always staffed and nobody is standing around. Three days is usually right for a giving tree of a few hundred gifts; a charity wrap station at a store runs the same way with longer hours. List the supplies as things to bring with counts, or the tape runs out at 11:00 while forty rolls of paper sit untouched.

The mistake is a social post that says 'come help wrap this weekend'. Twenty people arrive Saturday morning and nobody comes Friday. Blocks with counts spread people out and show you which afternoon is short. One tip: write which door and where to park in the description, and say whether kids are welcome. Volunteers get a reminder the day before with their block, which is what keeps a December morning from running short.

Questions people ask

How do we keep the gifts matched to the right family?
Wrap in family batches, not gift by gift. One sorter per shift bags everything for a family together, tapes the tag with the family number to the bag, and nothing leaves the table until the batch is done. Put that in the shift description so new wrappers know the system from the first minute.
Can someone sign up for a block and bring supplies on the same form?
Yes. Shifts and things to bring sit on the same page; they tick both and get one confirmation.
What does it cost?
One live page with up to 30 volunteers is free. Pro is $9 a month or $79 a year: unlimited volunteers and pages, co-organizers, hours reports and no branding line. Three days of four-person blocks plus a supply list is usually over 30 spots, so a wrap day is often the first thing a group goes Pro for.

Why not a paper sheet or a Google Form?

A paper sheet lives in one place and fills up with the first people who walk past it. A Google Form takes forty signups for a row that needed two, and you find out in the spreadsheet. An online sign-up sheet closes each row when it's covered, sends a reminder the day before, and gives every person a link to cancel so the spot reopens. See the side-by-side with Google Forms.
