Copy a parent or guardian on every email

If your volunteers are teenagers, a parent usually needs to know where they are going and when. You can ask for a parent or guardian email on the signup form. Everything we send the volunteer about their signups then goes to the parent as well: the confirmation, the schedule (on pages where you assign people), waitlist updates and the reminder the day before.

Turn it on

  1. Open your page's dashboard and click Edit.
  2. Open More options: questions, agreement, parent email, close date.
  3. Under Parent or guardian email, choose Ask, optional or Ask, required.
  4. Save.

The signup form now has a "Parent or guardian email" field next to the phone number. With required, nobody can sign up without filling it in.

What the parent receives

The parent is copied (Cc) on the volunteer's emails, so both addresses see the same message. The link in that email to change or cancel a signup works for either of them.

The parent does not get a separate account, and they are not added to your contacts. If you email everyone on the page from Message, that goes to the volunteers, not the parents.

Where to find the address

The parent's email shows under the volunteer's name on your People page, and the CSV export has a "Parent email" column.

Already have signups?

Turning this on does not ask existing volunteers for a parent email. If you need one for someone who already signed up, ask them to sign up again with the same email address: their spots stay as they are and the parent address is added.
